Hi, The 98 series engines were used in the 285/2100 and 485/4100 tractors but the BMC units were never factry fitted to and tractors, only home conversions.

Hi, The engine is good for about 105 hp at 2000 rpm. Fitted to a Nuffield you will get about 65 hp at 14000 rpm ( pto speed).

The valves are the limiting factor on power. My turbo charged Nuffield can develop similar or more power from a 4 cylinder!

Hi,
Not a lot for those revs! Mind you, I doubt the valves have had time to close!

Hi, I have not added an intercooler to my turbo nuffield yet, but from my experiance of when I intercooled my turbocharged Landrover I saw no power increase. But it dose alow you to run more boost and burn more fuel without melting the pistons.

As to how long it will do 65 hp at 1400 rpm ? Who knows, as they say " Those who can, do. those who cant , teach!".

Hi Sirloy. My Nuffield would sure have a good buzz to the exhaust note at that speed! Well spotted LOL.

I did hear that some tractor pulling boys have got a Cummings engine to run at 10,000 RPM!

I heard a runaway 6.0 v8 ford diesel running at least 7000 rpm for a good 3 mins, it wasn't a pretty noise.....
